"A revolutionary voice in her lifetime, Butler has only become more popular and influential. It is as epic, as game-changing, as moving and brilliant as any science fiction novel ever written."- Viola Davis " Wild Seed is a book that shifted my life. "A master storyteller, Butler casts an unflinching eye on racism, sexism, poverty, and ignorance and lets the reader see the terror and beauty of human nature." - The Washington Post Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, she must at the same time learn who wanted-and still wants-to destroy her and those she cares for, and how she can save herself. Butler's final novel is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl whose alarmingly unhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: She is in fact a genetically modified, 53-year-old vampire. The sole survivor of a horrific slaughter, Shori must now struggle to rebuild her family and learn who would want-and still wants-to destroy her.īook Synopsis Octavia E. Girls still struggle with misogyny, sexism, and issues of identity and self-esteem. Fast forward to today, and adolescent girls and the parents, teachers, and counselors who care about them find themselves confronting many of the same challenges Pipher wrote about originally as well as new ones specific to today. The book became iconic and helped to reframe the national conversation about what author Mary Pipher called "a girl-poisoning culture" surrounding adolescents. In 1994, Reviving Ophelia was published, and it shone a much-needed spotlight on the problems faced by adolescent girls. The 25th anniversary edition of the iconic book, revised and updated for 21st-century adolescent girls and their families. Authors have not ignored his indispensable wife, Clementine (Sonia Purnell’s 2015 biography is particularly illuminating), but even history buffs will welcome Larson’s attention to their four children, especially Mary, a perky adolescent and his favorite. Churchill remains the central figure his charisma, public persona, table talk, quirks, and sybaritic lifestyle retain their fascination. Since no one doubted they lived in extraordinary times and almost everyone kept journals and wrote letters, the author takes full advantage of an avalanche of material, much of which will be unfamiliar to readers. The bestselling author deals with one of the most satisfying good-vs.-evil battles in history, the year (May 1940 to May 1941) during which Churchill and Britain held off Hitler.īookshelves groan with histories of Britain’s finest hour, but Larson ( Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania, 2015, etc.) employs a mildly unique strategy, combining an intense, almost day-to-day account of Churchill’s actions with those of his family, two of his officials (Frederick Lindemann, who was Churchill’s prime science adviser, and Lord Beaverbrook, minister of air production), and staff, including private secretary Jock Colville and bodyguard Walter Thompson. By 1982 he had published four more collections: Przejście przez lustro (coll 1975), Iluzyt (coll 1976), Feniks (coll 1981) and Ogon diabła (coll 1982). I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It not only discusses the nature of the reality in which we find ourselves currently, but gives specific, practical methods by which we can improve our life situations. While it was itself a fascinating, enlightening book, The Nature of Personal Reality is more practical and helpful. I reviewed the first one, Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul, here. The Nature of Personal Realityis the second book in a series of six main Seth books. I realize the number of doggy ears below is a bit ridiculous, but have a look: If you’ve read other book reviews on this site, you know one of my criteria of a book’s value is how many pages are doggy eared after finishing it. These notes are almost a book in themselves: 17,457 words. It took me several hours to take notes, which are mostly verbatim transcriptions of what I found to be the most valuable passages. I finished reading it last week and just today finished transcribing the passages I doggy eared while using the best way to read a book. This post is a review of the most empowering book I’ve ever read: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know, by Jane Roberts (and Seth). Beautifully repackaged in paperback, this title will appeal to new readers as well as fans looking to update their collection.
